Summary:
Seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to install, repair and service packaging machinery at various customers' facilities. Work out of your home and service customers within a 1 hour drive. Must be able to work independently and manage own schedule servicing customers in a timely manner. Some overnight travel is possible. Company will provide a van, computer, phone and printer.
You must be able to pass an extensive background check, have 75% mechanical experience, 25% electrical experience, pass an aptitude test, have experience with Calipers and be able to possibly work 2 to 3 overnights a week. This includes 3-6 months training.
Responsibilities:
-Plan and schedule service calls, product installations and conversion, working from message center data and service plans, and modify schedules as necessary to meet customer needs.
-Telephone customers to review and resolve product failures, determine the nature of problems and recommend corrective action as feasible.
-Make service calls, diagnose more complex equipment breakdowns involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic functions, disassemble units, replace defective parts, make adjustments and test for proper operation.
-Set up pre-installation meetings with customers to review installation procedures and both company and customer responsibilities, inspect sites for product compatibility and install, adjust and test equipment.
-Maintain an inventory of parts and recommend customer replacement part inventories as appropriate.
-Direct the work of customer personnel on field calls as necessary.
-Recommend equipment updates to customers and follow up on field conversions and retrofits as required.
-Submit detailed reports of customer calls and apparent equipment design and manufacturing problems and recommend improvements.
-Submit sales leads to territory sales representatives and keep management informed of competitor activities in the field.
-Set up and conduct product maintenance and repair programs for customer personnel and maintain effective working relationships with customer personnel.
-Assist higher classified service engineers on field project activities as assigned.
-Manage maintenance contracts in an efficient and cost effective manner.
-Maintain safe working practices and report and follow up on unsafe conditions.
-Use electrical and electronic meters, precision measuring instruments, hand power tools and a variety of hand tools.
Qualifications:
-Minimum 2 years of field or industrial maintenance experience.
-Basic knowledge of PLC programming, hydraulic and pneumatic technology.
-A strong working knowledge in the mechanical and electrical fields.
-Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to effectively use and read measuring instruments, such as multi-meter, amp meter, micrometers and calipers.
-Ability to establish effective rapport with all levels of employees and customers.
-Ability to take initiative and organize their own work independently.
-Strong customer services skills, with the ability to analyze the root cause and find permanent solutions to issues.
-Ability to engage in extensive customer interaction.
-Willing and able to travel, overnight travel (approximately 30%).
-Solid computer skills (MS Office Applications and Windows-based programs).
-A valid driver's license and your own tools.
-Mechanical background preferred.
-Machinist background a plus, but not required.
-Military background a plus, but not required.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
