Project Engineer (Mechanical) - Top Tier 1 automotive


Our client is a global leader in OEM and Aftermarket products in the Tier 1 automotive industry. We are seeking a direct hire candidate for the role of Project Engineer (Mechanical) in their South Bend IN location.
JOB DUTIES:
Completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements; starting from award of business through till 3 months after SOP.
Contributes to the efficient functioning of piston manufacturing operations by developing and providing technical knowledge used to make decisions, develop innovative piston products and piston processes, reduce costs, and create piston products recognized for highest quality.
Guide all projects in compliance with Federal-Mogul APQP standards.
Review, recommend and bring about future piston products and piston process techniques to achieve quality products at reduced manufacturing costs.
Involved in piston manufacturing planning by bringing newly developed products and processes into successful and profitable production.
Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors.
Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests.
Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
Controls project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts.
Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
Maintains project data base; entering and backing up data.
Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Follows/supports project through Federal-Mogul phase gate system until equipment is accepted by production (typically 3 months after SOP)

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related Field
Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Project
Experience with APQP systems
Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Demonstrates leadership ability, conflict resolution and problem solving
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with all levels of management and hourly employees.
Experience within heavy industrial environment.
Knowledgeable of mechanical principles, machining practices, CNC equipment and tooling generally acquired through a Bachelors degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering.
Minimum of five years experience in the Manufacturing Engineering field.
Understanding of quality planning methods and measuring equipment including SPC.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
